UP Govt Announces 60% DA: Yogi’s Big Gift Brings Salary Hike & Arrears for 16 Lakh Employees

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major DA hike for state employees and pensioners. Moreover, the 2% increase will raise Dearness Allowance from 58% to 60%, bringing higher salaries and arrears benefits from January 2026.

UP Government Approves 2% DA Hike for Employees

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to support state employees and pensioners amid rising inflation. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), raising the total benefit from 58% to 60%.

Additionally, the Finance Department issued an official order confirming the revised rates. Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department, announced that the new DA rates will come into effect from January 1, 2026.

As a result, lakhs of employees and pensioners across Uttar Pradesh will receive improved monthly income along with pending arrears.

16 Lakh Employees and Pensioners to Get Direct Benefit

The latest DA hike will directly benefit around 16 lakh people in the state. Moreover, the revised allowance will apply to several categories of government staff and retired employees.

The beneficiaries include:

Category Benefit Status
State Government Employees Eligible for 60% DA
Pensioners Eligible for 60% DR
Aided Educational Institution Employees Included in benefit
Technical Institution Staff Included in benefit
Urban Local Body Employees Eligible for revised DA

Meanwhile, the government has also confirmed arrears for the period between January 2026 and April 2026. Therefore, employees will receive additional pending payments along with their revised salary.

When Will Employees Receive the Increased Salary?

According to the official order, employees and pensioners will receive the revised 60% DA and DR amount with the May 2026 salary payment. In addition, the pending arrears for four months will also be credited together.

This means beneficiaries can expect a noticeable increase in their total salary and pension amount in early June 2026.

DA Hike Details Information
Previous DA Rate 58%
New DA Rate 60%
Effective Date January 1, 2026
Arrears Period January to April 2026
Expected Payment Time June 2026

Why the DA Increase Is Important for Employees

Dearness Allowance plays a crucial role in government salaries because it helps employees manage the rising cost of living. The government usually revises DA twice every year based on inflation trends and recommendations under the 7th Pay Commission.

Although the increase is only 2%, it will still make a meaningful difference in monthly earnings. Furthermore, employees in higher pay grades will see a bigger increase in take-home salary due to the revised percentage.

On the other hand, the decision will also increase the financial burden on the Uttar Pradesh government. Reports suggest that the state treasury may face an additional expense of several hundred crores annually because of the DA revision.

UP Government Followed the Central Government Pattern

The Uttar Pradesh government introduced the DA hike after the central government recently increased Dearness Allowance for central employees from 58% to 60% under the 7th Pay Commission.

Usually, many state governments follow the same pattern while revising employee benefits. Consequently, states such as Bihar, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu had already implemented similar increases before Uttar Pradesh announced its decision.

Now, Uttar Pradesh has officially joined the list of states offering 60% DA to government employees and pensioners. Moreover, crossing the 60% mark is considered a major milestone because it significantly boosts salary structures and retirement benefits.

Employees Welcome the Government Decision

Government employees and pensioners across Uttar Pradesh have welcomed the announcement. Many employee unions had been demanding an increase for the past several months due to rising household expenses and inflation.

Additionally, the release of arrears has added more relief for families managing daily expenses. The revised DA is expected to improve purchasing power and provide financial stability to lakhs of households in the state.
