Stellantis India has acquired the remaining stake in Stellantis Automobiles India Pvt Ltd (SAIPL) from Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Ltd (HMFCL), a CK Birla Group company. The transaction provides full ownership of Stellantis manufacturing operations at Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.
The automaker is planning to raise production at the facility from around 18,000 vehicles in 2026 to more than 50,000 units annually by 2027. Stellantis said the expansion would also boost employment at the plant plus across its supplier and logistics network.

Stellantis is targeting a huge jump in manufacturing at its Thiruvallur facility. The company currently produces around 18,000 vehicles in 2026 and plans to take production above 50,000 units annually by 2027.
The company’s higher production capacity is expected to support its operations in the domestic and international markets. Stellantis India CEO and Managing Director Shailesh Hazela said India was an important part of the company’s growth strategy. The latest ownership change is expected to boost its integration and response to market and customer requirements.

CK Birla Stake Acquisition Gives Stellantis Full Ownership
The manufacturing partnership between Stellantis and the CK Birla Group dates back to 2017. With the acquisition of HMFCL’s remaining stake in SAIPL, Stellantis now has complete ownership of the joint venture and manufacturing operation at Thiruvallur.
The transaction was funded through foreign direct investment (FDI). Stellantis said the ownership change will support deeper operational integration, faster decision-making and greater flexibility in the Indian market. The company has not disclosed the consideration paid to the CK Birla Group for the stake.
The Thiruvallur plant began vehicle assembly operations in 2021. It currently manufactures Citroën C3, ë-C3, C3 Aircross and Basalt models with localisation of more than 95 per cent.

Stellantis has invested more than €1 billion or nearly ₹11,000 crore in India across manufacturing, product development, localisation and capability building.
The planned increase in Stellantis India production is also expected to boost employment. The company’s direct workforce at the facility stood at around 610 employees in 2026 and is expected to more than double as production increases. Additional employment is expected across suppliers and logistics partners linked to the plant.
The company has also been boosting its export activity from India. Stellantis said its Thiruvallur facility serves export markets across four continents.
