Renault Duster Hybrid will be launched in India on October 17, 2026. The strong-hybrid variant will be the third powertrain option in the new Duster lineup, which includes the existing 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines. Renault’s E-Tech hybrid system features a 1.8-litre petrol engine coupled with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack.

The Renault Duster Hybrid produces a combined 160hp and 172Nm. The new powertrain is targeted at improving efficiency in city driving and will position itself against strong-hybrid variants of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris and Toyota Hyryder.

Renault Duster Hybrid Engine and Power

The Duster Hybrid employs a naturally aspirated 1,789cc four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. One of the electric motors produces 20hp and serves as a generator, while the 49hp electric motor drives the wheels. The complete system produces 160hp and 172Nm. A 1.4kWh battery powers the hybrid system.

Unlike the Toyota hybrid system used by the Hyryder, Grand Vitara and Victoris, Renault’s E-Tech system utilises a multi-mode automatic gearbox with fixed gear ratios and the powertrain can switch between electric drive, petrol-engine driving and a combination of both.

Renault Duster Hybrid EV Mode and Efficiency

Renault claims that up to 80 percent of city drives can be performed in EV mode. The hybrid system can use electric power for low-speed driving while regenerative braking helps recover energy and recharge the battery.

While the 1.4kWh battery is larger than the battery used in the Toyota strong-hybrid system mentioned by Autocar India, the fuel efficiency will be determined by factors such as the traffic, speed, temperature and driving style. Renault has not offered a final real-world mileage in the cited launch report.

The hybrid drivetrain also offers an electrified alternative to the existing petrol engines in the Duster. The SUV currently features a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100hp and 160Nm while the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 163hp and 280Nm.

Renault Duster Hybrid Launch Date and Rivals

Renault will launch the Duster Hybrid in India on October 17, 2026. The strong-hybrid variant will be the fourth strong-hybrid model in the midsize SUV segment, alongside the hybrid variants of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris and Toyota Hyryder.

Renault has not announced the Duster Hybrid’s India price in the cited report. The existing Duster range is priced between ₹10.49 lakh and ₹18.49 lakh ex-showroom, while the hybrid is expected to be placed above the existing petrol variants. The final price is to be final on launch.

The Duster Hybrid will also mark the introduction of Renault’s Hybrid E-Tech technology in the Indian market. Renault had previously confirmed that the India-spec Duster would get the 1.8-litre strong-hybrid system with a total output of 160hp and a 1.4kWh battery.

The new Duster was launched in India in March 2026 with two turbo-petrol engines. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 100hp and 160Nm and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 163hp and 280Nm and is offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Renault Duster Hybrid will provide an efficiency-focused powertrain to the SUV’s lineup with the retention of the Duster’s midsize SUV positioning. More details about its variant lineup, features and final price are expected when Renault officially launches the hybrid variant on October 17.
