Yash Raj Films released a statement on 22nd September confirming Krishna Mukerji’s death. The family expressed gratitude for everyone’s prayers and support while asking for privacy as they bid adieu to their beloved mother. The statement released by Yash Raj Films did not mention the cause of death.

Krishna Mukerji was often seen with Rani Mukerji at various events. Rani Mukerji often talked about the close bond she shared with her mother over the years.

Who Was Krishna Mukerji?

Krishna Mukerji was a playback singer who had worked in the Bengali film industry. Some of her popular Bengali songs are Haiwan and Teesri Aankh. Krishna Mukerji was also a costume designer for the 1992 Hindi film Isi Ka Naam Zindagi.

Her playback singing career started in the 1980s, and one of her popular songs was Idd Ke Din Gale Mil Le Raja from the film Teesri Aankh.

Krishna Mukerji Was Married to Late Filmmaker Ram Mukerji

Krishna Mukerji was married to Ram Mukerji, a filmmaker, and co-founder of Filmalaya Studios. The duo got married in 1972. Ram Mukerji is survived by their two children, Rani Mukerji and Raja Mukerji, who are also a part of the film industry in various capacities.

One of his popular works was the film Hum Hindustani, and he also directed Leader. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 84.

Rani Mukerji’s Career Got Boosted by Her Mother’s Support

Krishna Mukerji had a great hand in pushing Rani Mukerji into the film industry. In one of her previous interviews, Rani Mukerji had revealed that her mother saw the potential in her and pushed her towards a career in acting.

Interestingly, Rani Mukerji revealed that Krishna Mukerji had initially criticized her performance during the screen test. Rani stated that her mother felt she was not suited for the industry and even told producer Karan Johar not to sign her for Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. However, Rani Mukerji made her Hindi film debut in 1996 with the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat.

Rani Mukerji has had a decorated career in the Hindi film industry. Some of the films she has featured in are Ghulam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Saathiya, Hum Tum, and Black. She was also a part of the Mardaani film series and has recently appeared in Mardaani 3.

Bollywood Personality Paid Tribute to Late Krishna Mukerji

Many film industry personalities paid their tributes to late Krishna Mukerji by attending her last rites in Mumbai. Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, and Anil Kapoor were among those who paid their respects to the late singer’s family. Ayan Mukerji was also present to pay his respects to his aunt.

The family has also requested people to give them space in this difficult time following Krishna Mukerji’s demise. Reports say that her contribution to the music industry and her association with one of the top film families in the country have been acknowledged.
