Malayalam actress Savithri Sreedharan has died at the age of 78.The veteran actress, who played Jameela in the 2018 Malayalam film Sudani from Nigeria has died at her residence in Mankavu, Kozhikode on September 23, 2026. It was reported that she had been bedridden for a long time and died after suffering age-related ailments.

Savithri Sreedharan had a career in theatre spanning a period of about five decades, before gaining wider recognition through Malayalam cinema. Her role in Sudani from Nigeria earned her a Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actress and a Special Mention at the National Film Awards.

Savithri Sreedharan Dies After Five-Decade Theatre Career

Savithri Sreedharan started her actor career through theatre. According to reports, she started performing in amateur theatre in 1961, with her early association including Valayanad Kala Samithi’s play Karutha Velicham. She later became associated with several prominent theatre groups in Kozhikode.

She joined the professional theatre in 1984, with K.T. Mohammed’s Kalinga Theatre and the play Ithu Bhoomiyanu. She then performed in several productions by Kalinga and worked with theatre groups including Sangamam Theatre, Chiranthana Theatre and Stage India.
