Maruti Suzuki Green Hydrogen Plant: Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned India’s first 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyser plant at its Manesar manufacturing facility in Haryana. The pilot project will seek to use the surplus solar power that gets generated at the company’s facility to produce green hydrogen for manufacturing operations.
The hydrogen will be stored and blended with natural gas for use as process fuel in manufacturing operations. The initiative aims to improve utilisation of renewable power that can otherwise lie idle on holidays.
Maruti Suzuki Commissions 300 kW Green Hydrogen Plant
Maruti Suzuki has commissioned the first green hydrogen electrolyser plant in its Manesar facility, which has a capacity of 300 kW. Maruti has taken up the initiative as a pilot project.
The company will use the excess solar power generated at the Manesar facility on holidays to run the electrolyser, which will produce green hydrogen for storage and use in manufacturing operations.

How Will Maruti Suzuki Use Green Hydrogen?
The green hydrogen generated at the Manesar plant will be stored and subsequently blended with natural gas. The blended fuel will be used as process fuel in the manufacturing operations of the company.
The project will also aim to utilise the solar power generated at the facility to the maximum extent. The electricity generated during holidays, when some of it will go unused, will be used to generate green hydrogen.
Maruti Suzuki intends to utilise the learnings from the pilot project to explore green hydrogen adoption on a wider scale at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki’s Wider Clean Energy Plans
The green hydrogen project is a part of Maruti Suzuki’s clean-energy road map for its manufacturing operations, which also entails enhancing solar power utilisation, procuring renewable electricity, entering into power purchase agreements, using biogas and adopting battery energy storage.
At its Kharkhoda facility, Maruti Suzuki is in the advanced stage of setting up a 10-tonnes-per-day biogas plant, which is expected to get commissioned during FY2026-27. In addition, it has commissioned a 1 MWh battery energy storage system at the Kharkhoda facility.
Maruti Suzuki has also begun to integrate compressed biogas as a process fuel. The board of the company has approved four compressed biogas projects with a budgetary provision of ₹561 crore.

In June 2026, the company said it intended to spend ₹925 crore by FY2030-31 on green-energy initiatives, including biogas projects.
Maruti Suzuki Targets Lower Manufacturing Carbon Footprint
Maruti Suzuki has targeted to lower its manufacturing carbon footprint from the current 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY2030-31.
The company is targeting multiple clean-energy initiatives, including solar power, renewable electricity, biogas, compressed biogas, battery energy storage and green hydrogen to achieve the objective.
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the company’s manufacturing competitiveness will increasingly get determined not just by cost and quality but also by the carbon content of the manufacturing process.
The company has said that the commissioning of the 300 kW green hydrogen plant is in consonance with the Green Hydrogen Mission of the Government of India.
What the Manesar Green Hydrogen Project Means
The 300 kW plant gives Maruti Suzuki the option to experiment with the use of green hydrogen in its manufacturing processes, combining the use of surplus solar power with hydrogen production and storage.
The company will evaluate the learnings from the pilot project before moving ahead with wider adoption of green hydrogen at its manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki’s clean-energy road map includes multiple technologies instead of relying on any one technology. In addition to green hydrogen, the company is targeting solar power, biogas, compressed biogas and battery energy storage to reduce the emissions related to its manufacturing processes.
